White Plains High School graduate Yaniv Dardashti-Weisz was honored with the New York State School Boards Association (NYSSBA) Tomorrow's Leaders Today Award, which recognizes students whose leadership positively impacts their schools and communities.  

Charis Choi and Afrozah Hossain were recognized for their service as White Plains Board of Education ex-officio student trustees, marking their final meeting before graduation. During their last board meeting before graduation, District Superintendent Dr. Joseph Ricca on Monday evening thanked both students for their contributions and praised the impact they had on the community.

A large group of White Plains City School District employees were recognized Monday night for marking a special milestone: 25 years of dedicated service in the district. Superintendent Dr. Joseph Ricca congratulated the teachers and staff members for their lengthy service during a Board of Education meeting in which he also paid homage to dozens of new retirees.

 The White Plains City School District honored its retiring teachers and staff members during a heartfelt ceremony Monday evening, celebrating decades of dedication to students, families and the school community. A touching video highlighted the evening, with retirees sharing favorite memories from their careers and reflecting on what they will miss most about their time in the district. Their recollections ran the gamut from cherished relationships with students and colleagues to moments that defined their years in White Plains.

For mental health awareness month Amanda Grant's health classes at Rochambeau Alternative High School participated in Westchester County Suicide Prevention Coalition’s Chalk the Walk initiative, writing messages of hope and encouragement outside of the school building. Community members passing by stopped to read the uplifting messages. The initiative is aimed at reducing the stigma surrounding conversations about mental health while reminding others that even small acts can have a big impact.

Students in the Class of 2026 are ready to make their mark on the world beyond graduation, and White Plains High School was proud to celebrate approximately 240 students earning the New York State Seal of Civic Readiness this morning. This was the largest group of recipients in school history and, for the first time, included eight students from Rochambeau Alternative High School. Students and their families were treated to a breakfast before being recognized for their achievements.

For Rochambeau Alternative High School senior Jaylen Inniss, art became a creative outlet and a pathway toward a future he once never imagined before he decided to attend SUNY-Purchase to become a teacher. Jaylen, who was an aspiring tattoo artist, said he feels as though he found both his voice and the environment where he truly belongs at Rochambeau, which he likens to a family that he is about to bid farewell.

The White Plains City School District's 2026-2027 budget was passed with a (unofficial) total vote count of 838 YES (91.2%) and 81 NO. For much of his childhood and teenage years, change was a constant for Roland Nkansah. He moved from city to city, school to school, adapting to new environments, new classmates and new routines while trying to find his footing. The instability weighed on him mentally and emotionally, he said, leaving him searching for a place where he finally felt supported and understood. That place turned out to be Rochambeau Alternative High School.

White Plains City School District educators were recognized and rewarded for years of high-quality service to students at this year's tenure celebration yesterday evening, where 38 teachers were awarded with tenure. Teachers were highlighted with a video, showcasing their achievement and highlighting their teaching journey, before the Board of Education voted to approve tenure. Click here to watch the video!

More than 150 students were honored during the annual National Junior Honor Society (NJHS) Induction Ceremony, which was held recently at Highlands Middle School. The event -- which recognized outstanding students for their academic achievement, leadership and service -- was supported by Superintendent Dr. Joseph Ricca, Highlands Principal Joseph Spero and Eastview Principal Leroy Dixon.

Director of Nursing Services Maggie Racioppo has penned a poignant essay, “The Nursing Cape,” an account of a vintage nurse’s cape with local roots and the remarkable woman who once wore it. In it, Ms. Racioppo captures the enduring spirit of the profession, one defined not only by clinical expertise, but by humanity, resilience and a lifelong commitment to others.

It's National Nurses Week! Ask most people what a school nurse does, they will likely say the medical providers hand out ice packs, check temperatures and bandage wounds. But the nurses in the White Plains City School District are quick to point out that this diagnosis is way off the mark. In reality, the role is less “Band-Aid station” and more frontline medical provider, public health official, counselor, educator and emergency responder all rolled into one, often operating alone in a building with hundreds of students and staff. 

These White Plains City School District students have all the right moves! From novice chess players to seasoned competitors building their ratings, the district’s young strategists made a strong showing across multiple divisions at a tournament at Seely Place School in Scarsdale, where they brought home team trophies and individual honors.

Students at Rochambeau Alternative High School were recognized Tuesday during the s3rd Quarter Awards Ceremony, a celebration that highlighted academic achievement, character and commitment. Moderated by Director Khali Murrell, the ceremony featured teachers and staff presenting certificates to students who have distinguished themselves in the classroom and beyond. 

The White Plains community is invited to a Free Book Celebration on May 16 at Eastview Middle School. Hosted by the White Plains PTA, the rain-or-shine event will run from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and promises something for everyone, including fledgling readers to lifelong book lovers.

Thirty-two students from White Plains High School and Rochambeau Alternative High School joined hundreds of their peers at the Westchester County Center on Tuesday for an event centered on leadership, voice and opportunity. More than 350 attendees took part in the 2026 Youth Leadership Symposium, hosted by the Westchester County Youth Bureau in partnership with the Lower Hudson Valley and New York State My Brother’s Keeper (MBK) Alliances. 

The Tri-State Engineering EXPO will be held from 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, April 12, 2026, at White Plains High School. Click here to register. Engineering EXPO is a fun, hands-on learning event, free for all ages of students and adults, geared toward advising high school and middle school students about careers in all fields of Engineering and the path to get there. 

The Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS) framework helps ensure high school students receive the academic support they need to succeed while also providing social-emotional and mental health support across the district. Through data analysis, classroom strategies and access to mental health professionals, the district’s MTSS approach helps remove barriers to learning while giving students multiple pathways to demonstrate their understanding.
